Street Canvassing on 31st of August

We, as a group of Hongkongers, are approaching our third year mark of living in Scotland. Four years ago, during the 2019 Hong Kong protests, we stood firm for universal values and defended freedom and democracy .

However, after twenty-odd years of the UK government handed over Hong Kong’s sovereignty to China, we witnessed China defaulted it’s promises on preserving the city’s human rights and democratic freedoms stated in the Sino-British Joint Declaration.

As Hongkongers, there are certain days in the calendar that we can’t forget. We feel sad and sorrow everytime when we see images of these events.

On the 31 August, we will be in the streets of Edinburgh urging every British citizen and resident to join us in signing a petition, demanding the UK government impose sanctions on Hong Kong officials who violate the Sino-British Joint Declaration.

Date: 31 Aug 2023
Time: 12:30-14:00
